"Matilda" meint eine Schlafdecke. Der Ausdruck "Walzing Matilda" bedeutet, dass der Besitzer der Decke
damit "auf der Walz" war. Er schnürte dann die Decke mit Hilfe von
Schnüren zu einem Beutel zusammen, was aus der Decke einen "Swag" machte und
aus ihm den 'Swagman'.
